Dr. Shannon Hashemi, CMA, is an Associate Professor of Accounting at the University of Bridgeport, where she has made significant contributions to teaching, research, and service since 2019. She was awarded the UB Distinguished Faculty Award in 2024 and was honored with an external monetary prize for her research by the Mutual Security Credit Union. She has spearheaded curriculum innovations such as the STEM Graduate Accounting Analytics Degree and revised the BS in Accounting program to align with the 2024 AICPA guidelines. Dr. Hahsemi has developed and updated several courses in the MBA program, integrating technology and experiential learning to enhance student engagement. She re-established the university's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) clinic, providing hands-on experience for students and service to the community.
With extensive teaching experience across various institutions, Dr. Hashemi enriched her pedagogical skills and adaptability. Her research focuses on earnings management, blockchain regulations, and ethical decision-making in accounting, with publications in respected journals like the American Business Review, an A-rated journal. Dr. Hashemi's service to the university includes leadership roles in FECC, accreditation processes, curriculum enhancement, and student organization support. She also serves as the Regional Director of the IMA in the Northeast, contributing to the broader accounting profession.
With professional experience as an Accounting Director and Financial Consultant, Dr. Hashemi brings significant practical industry insights to her teaching and research, bridging academic theory and real-world applications.
