Dr. Christopher Szpryngel (pronounced spring-gull) is an Assistant Professor of Management at the Trefz School of Business. With nearly two decades of experience in higher education, he has designed and taught undergraduate and graduate courses in business, leadership, and management. Prior to his academic career, Dr. Szpryngel spent over 25 years in the environmental industry as an entrepreneur, consultant, manager, and educator.
Dr. Szpryngel's research focuses on the business and societal implications of aging and dementia. He studies how organizations can create more inclusive workplaces for individuals with cognitive and other disabilities and investigates the economic and social effects of dementia on workforce participation, consumer behavior, and healthcare systems. His research further explores how marketing strategies, organizational policies, and public health initiatives can support prevention efforts, improve quality of life, and address the needs of an aging population.
A former U.S. Army Military Policeman, Dr. Szpryngel is actively engaged in community and volunteer leadership. He serves as a Certified SCORE Mentor with the Western Connecticut SCORE Chapter. He participates in numerous faith-based initiatives as a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus, co-founder of Stephen Ministry, lector, and Eucharistic Minister at his local parish. He is also the Past President and an Emeritus Board Member of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Waterbury. Dr. Szpryngel lives in Waterbury, Connecticut, with his wife, Lisa, and their three children.
