Dr. Vance's career began as a certified teacher in Connecticut. For several years, he taught in local public school systems and also taught classes as an adjunct professor at Housatonic Community College. Dr. Vance joined the U.B. faculty in 2015 in the School of Arts and Humanities as an adjunct professor of writing and literature. In the winter of 2018, he completed his doctoral studies at U.B. and began teaching classes in the School of Education. In the spring of 2021, Dr. Vance was named Distinguished Adjunct Faculty Member for the School of Education. In that same year, he accepted a full-time faculty position. Dr. Vance served as Director for various programs in both teacher certification and educational leadership in the SOE. In addition, Dr. Vance served as Interim Director of the School of Education for the 2025-2026 academic year. Previous teaching experiences include curriculum theory, ethics, international education, and a myriad of research courses. In addition, Dr. Vance currently serves as chairperson or reader on a number of doctoral dissertation committees. His research agenda includes further opportunities to examine adult learning theory and its associations with the international community. His research was accepted for presentation at the annual NERA conference in both 2019 and 2022. In addition, he was selected as a proposal reviewer for NERA conferences in 2020 and 2023. Recently, Dr. Vance published a journal article, along with colleague Dr. John Chick: "The Impact of Professional Development on STEM Workforce" in the Online Journal for Workforce Education and Development (Southern Illinois University) https://opensiuc.lib.siu.edu/ojwed/vol13/iss1/2. The aforementioned research work received the Imogene Okes Award for Outstanding Research in Adult Learning, 2025 (AAACE). An additional peer-reviewed journal article examining barriers to education was published that same year with colleagues Dr. Laura Morello and Dr. John Chick. In July of 2026, Dr. Vance's textbook on international teaching and learning methods was published through Kendall Hunt.
